Not Oppo, naturally. But Lansplitter, Black Flag, Foxtrot Alpha, etc
When their posts show up, it looks like exclusive Jalopnik content, but with some of them, they appear to have a completely different tone, list of users, and everything. Were they originally independent and got absorbed into Kinja as a form of syndication? They just seem so editorially inconsistent with everything else (and I don’t mean /DRIVE or Hooniverse or C&D, which are all clearly independent and cross-posting here). And a lot of the posters are dicks, quite frankly.
Also, Kinja still sucks. :P

All were created by Jalopnik after Kinja, within the last year and a half.

The official Sub-Blogs of Jalopnik were all spun off from Jalopnik but not entirely kicked off the mothership. Hardigree hired all of writers and created the sub-blogs on the 5th day of Jalopnik.

I don’t know; I’m a noob. But I find little of worth on any of them and much of vulgarity and non-excellence.

Lanesplitter- Bikes

I still miss the “formless void” version of the site...

My take was that they just specialize in a specific subset of the automotive / transportation category. Motorcycles, trucks, aviation, military, racing, etc.
By dividing everything up, you can go to one place to get all of your motorycle coverage, for example. At the same time, you need to be approved to get outta the greys on each of them.

notawesome is for awful shit like spam and trolls
All the Gawker sites used to have sections like that, where editors would move bad posts to notawesome. Here is a list of such forums (each Gawker site had its own)
Jalopnik: notawesome
Gawker: whitenoise
Jezebel: no
Gizmodo: trollpatrol
(I don’t remember the other sites’ badlists)
NOTE: Gawker used “whitenoise” for its spam orum, while Gizmodo used the whitenoise name the same way Jalopnik used oppo (back when oppo was called offtopic)

Sure, it was a way for us to start experimenting with other areas we wanted to cover that would eat up too much of the front page (although almost everything gets shared, so it’s slightly moot). Now that Oppo is on Kinja, every subblog contributor is paid.
Lanesplitter — Damon did that as a Kinja and I was like: Fuck it, bring it over.
Foxtrot Alpha — We occasionally did military stuff and I saw a lot of it on Oppo, and then we found Tyler and he’s great.
Truck Yeah! — We needed more truck content, seemed like a fun idea.
et cetera, et cetera

Sure, I get all the themes, but it’s just weird to see a Lanesplitter post show up and it already has 100 comments from people I’ve never seem before. Are there really that many Jalops who only follow the sub-blogs or was Lanesplitter a standalone site before becoming part of Jalopnik?

in terms of the technical, all blogs have to manage their own users, regardless of their parent site affiliation. like how oppo used to be oppositelock.jalopnik.com but it wasn’t parallel users or management.

yeah, many opponauts (including myself now) use oppo as their primary page. I imagine that other blogs have their regulars too.

So when can I expect an invite for Upper Midwest to the big leagues? :D
After all, what other subblog has covered an auto show
by sleeping in their vehicle?
